Being independent is a matter of pride for most senior people. I know because I have two septuagenarian grandmothers in my family’s care. They don’t like anybody hovering or fussing over them. They like to be left alone to do their own chores at home, even do their own laundry and cook their own food. And we let them be. We respect them enough to give them space, to retain a semblance of pride in being independent. But we also make sure that we are there ready to assist them when they need us to.
What I am worried about is an elderly disability on either of the grandmothers. One of them slipped on the bathroom floor while taking a bath and now has problems with her left hip. The doctor advised her not to put pressure on the left side of her hip down to her leg. I thought it best for us to get her an adult electric scooter to help her get around not only inside the house but also when she’s out. It will help in the healing process of her left hip. Portable wheelchair ramps are also something to look into to be used when moving around with the scooter.
Pride Mobility carries a wide range of mobility products fit for those in need of Powered Chairs and Scooters, Lift Chairs, Ramps and more. There is pride in being able to move around independent of assistance from anybody. Give that to your elderly love ones, that pride in independence. In the process, you are also increasing their quality of life. The comfort and convenience an elderly, especially a disabled one, can get from the mobility products are what care is all about.
I am seeing more and more disabled elderly persons using electric scooters for adults in the mall and the supermarket. It can get them around without the need to be assisted by anybody. Being old does not have to mean dependent on moving from one place to another. Give them a sense of pride with their independence through a mobility tool like a scooter and a wheelchair ramp.
